Kinvara Hockey Club was established by a group of local women who wanted to create sporting opportunities for girls in the area. The first committee was elected and the club began competing in Connacht competitions.

Seamount college teacher Mr. Gerry Barrett was one of the main drivers behind this initiative to see a local club formed for school players. Teachers Mrs. Chrissie McDonagh and Mrs. Sheila Conneely, along with 17-year old Seamount pupil Siobhan Forde, were amongst the founding committee.

The club grew through these decades, competing and winning Connacht competitions at various levels. Under the stewardship of long-time volunteers and coaches, Kinvara maintained competitive teams and an active presence in regional hockey.

Kinvara's membership expanded significantly, with youth and adult programmes growing year by year. The club regularly competed in Connacht leagues and contributed players to interprovincial teams.

The club celebrated anniversaries along the way, marking decades of community hockey.

Phase 1 of the Moy Road project was completed, land was purchased, planning permission granted, and a community fundraising campaign (“Let’s Build It”) launched to support a multi-sport, all-weather pitch facility.

Kinvara Hockey Club was allocated €443,700 under the Community Sports Facilities Fund to help deliver a new hockey pitch after 40+ years without a home ground.

Later in the year, the club secured €1.3 million under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund toward the development of a regional hockey and multi-sport pitch at Moy Road, including fencing, floodlighting, and additional court facilities.
