HOCKEY starts here
Kinvara Hockey Club was founded over 40 years ago by local women determined to create sporting opportunities for girls in the community. What began as a small grassroots club has grown into a thriving, inclusive organisation offering hockey for all ages — from youth and adult teams to social hockey, walking hockey, Inclusive Hockey (Hockey4All), and a dedicated TY schools programme.
Over the years, our players have represented Connacht and Ireland, won multiple league titles, and helped build a strong, welcoming club at the heart of the community. Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter as we develop a multi-sport, all-weather community facility on Moy Road, Kinvara — a lasting home for hockey and a shared space for South Galway and North Clare.
Having two daughters in the Club has helped develop them as confident, capable team players, while giving them great friendships and experiences – from the All-Ireland schools in Armagh with Seamount College to tournaments across Connacht and Kilkenny.
As a coach, it has been rewarding to promote the sport and foster a love of the game among younger players.
Playing hockey with Kinvara taught me the importance of commitment, hard work and supporting each other through the highs and lows.
